Was this review helpful? I’m actually typing it up while watching some coverage of the LPGA Tour event at the Capitol Hill Senator Course. Golf Alabama. The Judge is the star attraction of Alabama's Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. It initially opened in 1999 with the Senator and Legislator courses but quickly expanded to a 54-hole complex the following year with the arrival of the Judge, which is one of the longest (measuring all of 7,813 yards) and toughest (with a slope rating of 142) tracks on the Trail. I suppose if you happened to find yourself in Montgomery this course would be worth checking out, but as a destination, even as part of the RTJ Trail, I wouldn’t waste your time. The Loblolly nine, with its gently rolling fairways, cathedral-like pines, and water-fronted greens, exudes a stately, Augusta-like quality. The Courtyard Montgomery - Prattville, is located right at Capitol Hill Golf Club of the Robert Trent Jones Trail. The Legislator is more of a traditional parkland layout, framed with tall pines and built along a large bluff whereas the Senator is a Scottish-Links style design with more than 150 sod-faced pot bunkers and up to 40 feet high mounds. The scenery is breathtaking as you stare down a 200-foot bluff to a sliver of a fairway with a well-protected peninsula green jutting out into the Alabama River. ( i believe it is about a 200 foot drop) The first hole is so impressive the rest of the course feels like a letdown, but it will grab you by the throat. Robert Trent Jones at Capitol Hill is one of the best and most difficult golf courses in the area. An accurate tee shot needs to avoid the fairway bunkers but not leak too far left or you will end up dunking it into the water hazard that runs along the left side all the way to the putting surface.
